WOW or WIP’s 25th March 2020

Antique Japanese kimono lengths of fabric that is Hand dyed indigo fabric. ?Given to me nearly 40 years ago? ? It’s taken me this long to work out how to Get rid of the yellow ageing and bring it back to life . ?It was made up as a kimono and worn and worn, you can still see the stitch holes were it had been sewn. ?It is a credit to the spinner, weaver, ?artist, stamper, and ?dyer. ? I hope I get to make these blocks all up so this fabric survives for future generations to enjoy as I have.

Newly washed antique indigo Japanese lengths of fabric after been brought back to its glory after soaking in nappy san . Most of the yellow aging has gone.

Newly washed antique indigo Japanese lengths of fabric having ?been brought back to its glory after soaking in nappy san . Most of the yellow aging has gone.

Jhb

Width of this woven cotton fabric is just over 14 inch’s so have cut it in to 14 inch squares so I will have no waste. ?Cut my back ground the same it’s made of Japanese woven wool . ?Hand woven fabrics. ?Fabric would have been stamped with a block print covered with rice paste before dying. This stoped the blue indigo dye from penetrating the fabric after dying it would of been washed till all the rice paste was removed and there was the beautiful design? ? This fabric is over 100 years old.

Jhbb

The cotton fabric is very thin and frail. So I’ve added a 100% cotton batting ?and hand quilting it in sashiko or big stitch

Hgf

Using the wool backing is giving the blocks a nice weight and will be very warm.

Hgff

Have used a fancy machine stitch to anchor down the turned edges.

Hbbb

Pinned and been hand sashiko quilted.

Hggv

Sashiko stitch’s showing up at the back.

Hbvv

One block completed now to find time to make up the next 23?!

Indi’s wall art.

Jhg

I have just spent a wonderful 2 days staying with my Grandies and their parents. My granddaughter 7 and I played with fabrics most of the time.

Hgg

Indi cut all the pieces out and made funky roof shapes .

I took a pile of very colourful 1990 fabrics with me a a beige piece of fabric 30inchs by18inchs I drew a sketch of some funky houses the shape of a Dresden blade with fun shaped roofs and she caught on very quickly,

Jhb

She Placed all the pieces of fabric,

For the first 3 hrs I ironed on irononfussing to about 30 different fabrics, told her she needed to build the big houses first then the middle size ones and final the small ones with out helping her at all choose fabrics she just knew what she wanted,

Jhg

She could just visual how they would come out?

and she cut out her fat and skinny tall house and gave them all funky roofs , window, and doors.

Hggf

Adding windows, doors and funky chimneys?

CF4134E1-00A0-4929-860E-BB6D4129E358Then she added the middle size houses, then she ended up with a wonderful fabric wall art.

Hhgg

I was just in awe of what she had made aged 7

IM still finding it hard to believe she did it All here self except the last 5 small houses as we were running out of time and I helped. ?It was finally glued on a piece of timber and is on her bedroom wall.

Jhhh

One happy proud wee girl.

Well done little one I’m very proud of you.

62B2DC61-8A24-474A-8E94-921A3F699512Only 4 more days and Part 2 of ?Esther’s lovely BOM Hope for 2020 will be released, ?there’s ?a lot more ?this month to work on compared to Part 1 but if you do lots of prep work it will grow quickly. ?Below two photos were where I left you last week.

It’s wonderful seeing my prep work growing again on my Hope Centre

It’s wonderful seeing my prep work growing again on my Hope Centre, as it has been put aside to finish another WIP!!!!

Mnn

Now its on to applqiueing down my bows stage and making up my doilies I need 4?? ???

Lkj

My Doilies as I made them from the top.? I ironed on some light weight interfacing then shrunk one of the embroidery stitches? and sewed my hatch cross lines.? ?cut out my shape,? added my tiny applqiue drops and scallops which are cut out as one piece from iron on fussing fabric!

Now to make 3 more!

Then over to the machine and appliqued those tiny pieces to my centre using a double blanket stitch, love how it makes the wee doillie Pop.? Now to make 3 more!

On to the wee dolls and bows

I couldn’t wait to make my wee dolls, I think they are so so cute, their dresses are made from irononfussing but their heads are hand made and have a tiny bits of wadding behind them to? make them 3 D.? ?I’m working on one corner at a time most of the time!!!!!? My fusing is lifting off because of the high temps and humidity, so I iron on one piece, machine or hand sew it down, then add another piece of applqiue, its slow but it works????

Love how the machine applique and coloured thread change the look of the fabric?

Love how the machine applique and coloured thread change the look of the fabric?.

4 bows were all most completed and then on the last 8inches to go disaster hits me? My machine chewed up the fabric after unpicking all the chewed thread my edge of the bow was badly frayed, I could not cover that edge with machine applique?

I cut out a slither of the same fabric and ironed it over the frayed area?

Kkj

Then machine appliquéd as usual, it has covered 2/3 rds of the slither but I needed to anchor that other part of the slither? some how to stop it lifting in the first wash!!!!!

Hgg

Out with the DMC embroidery threads, using two threads and a number 10 long milliners? needle I made up 3 tiny tiny bees

Hgg

My wee bee’s look like they ahve just landed LOL? ?Disaster avoided I think???

Jhh

First ?I made Sue’s Bonnet I added Blue French knots to add a wee touch of colour to the lace.? She is now waiting for me to finish sorting out what her dress is going to be !!!!!

Going to see if I can find any thing in the gardena after a weeks rain!!!!!

WOW or WIP’s shared with Esther Aliu 4th March 2020.

Jhg

This afternoon I played with my lovely Hope centre making up my first complete 1/2 circle and 6 dolls for my first corner I’m slowly machine appliqueing? ? Will make up the other 5 heads tonight if I can stay awake!

WOW or WIP’s ?4th March 2020

Hello All, I did not want to write the date today it makes me realise my year is flying by to quickly. ? Each day I have it planned for sewing but things happen and some times it goes so quickly I don’t get any sewing done! ?I played all morning with Sue then this afternoon it was back to my lovely Hope centre making up those tiny ?1/2 circles and wee dolls.

This

This is what I need to make up and 4 of them they are only 3inchs by 2inchs!!! It is glued to cardboard so I can make my templates.

This is how I made up my 1/2 circles before adding the tiny tear drops and loops

This is how I made up my 1/2 circles before adding the tiny tear drops and loops. I’ve added a very tight machine embroidery ?stitch to give me the diamond back ground shape.

Jh

Finished making my background ?1/2 circle.

Mkj

My loops cut out in one piece of fabric !

Lkj

Completed making up the tiny pieces now waiting to be machine appliquéd to my centre, need to make the other 3 now.

Jh

My loops are going to be made with of irononfussing fabric so made a template so I can cut them out in one piece.

Hgf

Top is my template to make up the loops in one piece of fabric!

I worked

I worked on appliqueing down these leaves till I ran out of thread on the weekend and had 4 leaves to do. Managed to pick up the last small reel of thread yesterday which will be enough to finish this block, then I can start hand appliquéing down those wee circles.

Close up

Close up of those leaves which are big around 4 1/2 inch’s??square.

Then I was side tracked during most of last week trying to finish my Wee houses?!

Will add another dark strip around this about a 2inch strip.

Will add another dark strip around this about a 2inch strip. Ended up scraping this idea

Mnn

And this one.scraped it !

Jhh

Went with this frame which was a nightmare as the two silks taught each other every 1/2 inch of the way, so had to pin every 1/2 inch!!! I bent at least 30 pins trying to push them through these tightly woven silks. ?Then I stupidly added a flange to make it 4 thicknesses of silk?!

Hhg

Finally I finished those 4 mitred corners and I could breath!

Kiu

All hand basted ready for machine quilting in the ditch around each block.

Hgg

Then it was a couple of hours pulling out all those threads!!!

All machine quilting done in the ditch. Time to do the hand stitching in the evenings now which is pure enjoyment.

Now going to hand quilt those wee houses by hand have done the pink house and it was fun seeing it pop as a wee 3D house

Now to day I need to play For awhile so making A Sunbonnet Sue for fun.

I made sound 37 of these 25 years ago when living in PNG as a friendship swap, blocks were 6 1/2 inch’s square. I all ways wanted to make a quilt up of Sue so may be I will start today

I made around 37 of these 25 years ago when living in PNG as a friendship swap, blocks were 6 1/2 inch’s square. I all ways wanted to make a quilt up of Sue for my self so may be I will start today, I’ve kept this one from back then to remind me of the fun I had making those?Sun-Bonnet??Sue’s . I made them when I started to learn about patchwork!!!

Made up my pattern yesterday and playing with my first one this morning.

Circles

Circles were some unfinished ones I bought online from the USA many years ago 1930 fabrics some shirting and some feed sacks, many I unpicked and redid. ?I completed them and then added the bow ties with some 1980 1990s fabrics, added a red flange then the border. ?It is going down to be quilted and given to a fire victim in Victoria.

Kjj

This one I made from NZ and Oz fabric designs, then added all the interlocking rings. It is also been quilted and bound by other quilters and been donated to a fire victim. ?I hope they bring a little warmth and comfort.

This week I’ve been laid up, unfortunately I have a infection in the? stitches ?in my arm, so have had several days off. ? When Iv’e been able to do any sewing it’s just been circles for my Red and Green quilt.

I had this many circles ready to see down, started to applique them done and realised I need to applique the leaves down first by machine, so I have been doing those leaves to day, if I do 4 each day by Sunday night I will be back to appliqueing my grapes down again. But unfortunately I’m going to run out of thread so I will have to wait till I can drive the car again and visit the fabric shop?

When

When doing these tight corners I drop my stitch length down but leave my width the same, it makes it so much easier to work around them

On my cutting borad this morning, not sure how they are getting in?

Wednesday rolls in again????? How quickly the days and go when you are a quilter.? there are never enough hrs in the day to fit in sewing time?????

GYT

My RD is still at this stage as I’ve been trying to finish the child’s quilt.

Kjjn

Where I was up to last week on making this wee quilt, it was only going to be a? wall hanging or a cot quilt but it keeps growing!!!!!

Where it started

Where it started

Kjjhv

curt the bottom left hand block with the butterfly in it and turned the block so the butterfly is up the right way now!!!!

Kjjg

Kjjg

Oiuy

There were a couple of nasty wee brown stain just behind the lambs tail so I’ve added a the fish and the fish’s tail covers those stains.? ?Need to sew on the blue border? first then iron him in place.

Hvcc

Starting by making my fish with irononfussing ironed on to a Teflon sheet.? Find this an easy way to make these added applqiue pieces.

Kjhb

Ironed down waiting to be machine appliquéd on.

Hgff

Looks like its working.

Kjyt

Lots and lots of threads to pull through !!!!

Kolp

Have added? deep pink applqiue to a few tail pieces and the strips of the body.

Lpokj

Used a black thread to do it’s eye, gill, and mouth. Now just need to do the top fin????? But first need to pull those threads and tie them off????? I’m all ways amazed how long the machine applqiue takes, I sit down for an hour and two hrs disappears?????

In the garden this morning.??IMG_1038 IMG_1040 IMG_1042 IMG_1043 IMG_1044 IMG_1047 IMG_1049 ?IMG_1051 IMG_1052 IMG_1053 IMG_1054 IMG_1055 IMG_1056 IMG_1057 IMG_1059 IMG_1062 ?IMG_1066

As I was walking around the garden I spotted this crucifix spider he just caught a tiny caterpillar in his web, so quickly he was on to it and I watched fascinated as he spun it round and round in his web????? then carry it back to the centre of his web????

Some little wool punched blocks came in to the shop and there was very little back ground fabric on some of them, ?they need a lot of help in way or the other, I’m turning them in to a child’s cuddly or comfort quilt

Found the below this morning,? a sample of how to reverse applqiue? it was called, but not sure if thats the correct word, it was a night mare to do as I’d used a calico for the top fabric and it was far far to loose a weave, not sure how I ever managed to complete it LOL

What I ahve been working on over the last 24hrs , started at 8pm last night, some tiny?pieces of beige calico? with punch work were handed in to the Opp Shop.? I brought them home and have been working out how I could make them big enough for a child’s quilt, I was able to save 7 pieces. Below is what I’ve been doing .

Punch worked blocks on beige calico

Punch worked blocks on beige calico. Will frame them in a deep red or blue child’s print then join them all together.? Top left hand corner has two sides done in the red so far.??

This is the wee dragon fly that came to visit covered in spider web!!!? I managed to cup him in one hand and slowly remove the web and then let him fly away to live another couple of months hopefully????

This morning I watched this spider build this web it was incrediable how fast he worked and spun this incrediable web?????

kjh

It’s hard to believe they can make this much thread? then recoil?it all?!!!!!

kjh

Look at his legs pulling those threads tight?????

Thanks for dropping in, I’ve not finished my blog its been a very busy day so far, so will finish it today or tomorrow as it will still be Wednesday some where in the world LOL

My first 3 blocks of Red Delicious.

My first 3 blocks of Red Delicious.

Hi every one,? I did think 2020 was going to be a great year, well quilting and sewing wise for me it’s been wonderful, ?my knee has improved so much I now can sit for several hours at the craft table sewing or drafting, ?I’ve been prepping my Red Delicious blocks like crazy and having so much fun, but not much sleep LOL. ?Sleeps in the day time stopped some where in the ?month !!!

Going to publish even though I have not done my caption, its all ready 1.30pm and I need to do some house work and prep dinner !!! Will write captions as soon as possible.

First up was I finished prepping my first block of Red Delicious.

Jhg

Jhg

Jhhb

The white satin stitch was using white sulky thread and stitiching so so slowly and changing the width of the stitch constantly?

Hhg

That satin stitch took me 10 mins LOL after nearly 2 hrs of?trying all sorts of width’s and lengths samples LOL

Jhh

But now I’m happy with the look?? Used a colonial knot for the centre of the pupil!!!

Start of my prepping for block 2 of Red Delicious

Jjn

Procrastinating over which colours to use for the wee caps over the Nightshade berries?

Hhg

DO I put the darkest fabric in the front?petal or the back petal!!! ended up in the front !!!

Yhh

Yhh

Ggg

Love these berry caps they remind me of flower fairy hats

Ggg

Love making these leaves mad with two pieces of fabric they are so much fun putting two contrasting colours together.

Hggg

Some how my 2 toned leaves became green toned ones????

Ygg

Ygg

Gff

Loved how it just kept growing!!!!

Hgg

Now to find time to machine applqiue it down???

Ggg

Ggg

Prepping of block 3 of Red Delicious.? Having to choose?fabrics, design, and colour tones!!!!

Jjn

This was my first choice but?those seeds are two big!!!!

GYT

Now I’m working on prepping block 4!! Just hope it works out as I see it in my mind????

Hgf

Fabric I want to use for the vase is not long enough so Ive had to work out a way to still use the fabric !!!!? ?I’ve cut two pieces to make the vase but I want that join to be invisbale???

Gfff

Thi sis some ribbon given to me when I was in France.? ?Its perfect for here.

Hgt

I fused some ononfusing to the back of the wide ribbon

Jhy

To get a perfect fit I placed the pice of vase I cut out then pressed it all together on my Teflon sheet.

Ggg

Cut to the true shape, I’m happy with it?? it looks like it was meant to be like this now???

WOW or WIP’s 22nd Jan 2020

Morning to you all who have woken to a beautiful Wednesday also.? Showing photo’s of parts of one of my blocks for WIL? ?Its taken me a long time to applqiue down all those fish I added in the border????? It was fun making up the border but WOW it was hard work appliqueing down those wee fish!!!!!

WIL

Machine appliqueing down one of the big border perse flowers

WIL

Did this one a year ago almost!!!!

WIL

Making?my flower fishes eye????

WIL

Threads so many threads to pull through and weave in to the back!!!!

WIL

Highlighting the centre of the flower with blue thread doing double back stitch, on a very low stitch length.

WIL

WIL

Those fish and I still have 3 more borders to do yet!!!!!

WIL

They are lovely but oh me oh my!!!!!

WIL

WIL

SO close now to appliqueing down that big flower It was left to last to save touching it all the time when appliqueing every thing else down?? When machine appliqueing I find the block get pushed and shoved so much through the machine throat????? ?SO leaving the main applqiue till last.

I have??had RD on my bucket since 2009?? ?I never made it back when Esther released it as it was about 1/4 of the way through the BOM and I knew nothing about online BOM so I watched instead, let’s say I may make some of the blocks in 2020? ?Making the first one and have taken photos for ?those who may want some help making theirs? ?This is a photo tutorial on how I built mine up to where I’m at now.

RD

Using white on white fabrics, not all the same fabric but all white on white. Remember to cut slightly bigger than measurements to allow for shrinkage when doing appliqué, then cut to size when you have finished the block?

Base for the Cherry thieves

Base for the Cherry thieves, yes it’s not red, I will be adding a little colour other than Red here and there?

Start of the pieces for irononfussing machine applique

Start of the pieces for irononfussing machine applique, these little legs are so cute? ?Making them up as one piece rather than seperate legs.

RD

Have ironed the legs to the body so I won’t lose them and they are ironed to the base. ?Main part of bird is not ironed down as I have the beaks, and cherry stalk to thread through his beak first .

RD

Made up his wing separately and will iron it on to the body as a whole wing .

RD

He has his cherries on the stalk threaded through his beak, again I made up the stalk and cherries then added them .

RD

Slowly it takes shape, it’s taking me much longer than I thought it would.

RD

He looks happier with his eye, that wee eye is made up of? 4 pieces all so tiny!

RD

This was as far as I got this afternoon and tonight so my little female bird has no eye or wing, may be tomorrow morning which will be Wednesday?

WOW or WIP’s 1st Jan 2020

Happy New Years Day All.

How I enjoyed typing 2020 just now. I’m so so sure it’s going to be a great year for most people it has such a great ring to it.
Yesterday while cleaning in dark places I don’t usually look!!! I pulled out a box and after dusting of a pile of dust found memories from the sewing past?! ?So my first post is about when I started quilting ? ?And where I was at back then 26 years ago?

Kjj

I was living in Papua New Guinea behind barb-wire with a lot of time on my hands after work 3 jobs and then not able to do any work or even do? volunteering work? ?So I joined a sewing quilting group! ?This turned my life around for the next 25 years till now LOL. ?I’d been doing candle-wicking for several years and so started to teach others in PNG. ?Above is some of my sample pieces I used?

Jhh

These 4 blocks were how I taught but gave them a pre pack to start with using silks for the back ground!

Hhbb

These were the packs I made up so they had a choice of colours.? I must finish the yellow silk one!? LOL

Hhb

Teaching them to free hand draw a simple design from the centre flower and learn to make new shapes!

Hhb

These were tiny broaches I taught back then ?25 years ago using brass rings and a 1/2 circle of felt .

Hgg

Green piece??ended up a small bag for sewing bits and pieces, ?it was just so they could have a choice of what to make?
A great wee bag to carry with bits and piece to sew while out waiting or just driving some where?

A great wee bag to carry with bits and piece to sew while out waiting or just driving some where?

Working an O in colonial knots and French knots!

Working an O in colonial knots and French knots!

You could keep on adding knots to make the O wider but for me this is enough?

You could keep on adding knots to make the O wider but for me this is enough?

Close up of those knots?

Close up of those knots? ?It’s not difficult i5 just takes lots of time?

Jhg

Then one meeting I asked if some one would show me how they made those lovely wee fabric flowers??? ?Some were made of fabric hearts some with something like petals to me back then LOL.

Hgv

My petal flowers from 25 years ago!!! ?I still like making them but use washaway freezer paper now not cardboard as you see here, but still small flowers?

Then

Then some one showed me how to make easy Drunkards path blocks with a circle and a square background?! and I had fun with those?? But my love kept going back to applqiue work? How to make a perfect heart for appliquéing on to a top or a dress?

Cut out your hearts in a perfect shape of your liking.

Cut out your hearts in a perfect shape of your liking. ?After cutting out your heart shape stitch around the edge leaving only around a little more than 1/8th

Backside of the hearts.

Backside of the hearts. ?Slit a hole in the back area of the heart and turn the heart inside out, work the edges in a rolling fashion to get the seam to lye flat and press. Add some wadding through the back slit if you want a puffy look to your heart .

Then I decided to teach my self to make clam shells!!!

Then I decided to teach my self to make clam shells!!! Yes they were only 2inchs across and down?

Yes I made this tiny tiny double sided shells till some one one showed me a very simple and fast wayLLLOL.

Yes I made these tiny tiny double sided shells and even added padding to them till some one one showed me a very simple and fast way to make clam shells LLLOL.

So I then made the below?! my first challenge with several other quilters which was called From The Rainforest To The Reef.? We could only use a piece of fabric once, and had to use the same shape through out?? so there was a lot of swapping of fabrics LOL? My stash then would not even have filled a small draw so i started cutting up clothes!!!!! There were no fabric shops in PNG>? I ended up attaching my shell shapes to a black satin fabric and called it the “Unfinished Symphony” and added circles around the edge as I did not know how to finish the raw edges on the clamshells!!!!!? I sure jumped in the deep end back then?

MVC-011F

Where ?ever you are? enjoying New Year’s Day or just waking up to it over the next 7 or 8 hrs.? I wish you a great 2020 year.? ?CHeers Glenda

WOW or WIP’s 11th December 2019

Hi ALL with all the things going on I’m late writing up my blog, have uploaded photo but no messages or captions this week????? ?Lets see how far I get this time? its 10am now.

Sharing how I made my Pineapple for Hold On To Your Heart by Esther Alue this is Part 8 .

Silk Fabric I dyed for the pineapple topknot and big green leaves

Silk Fabric I dyed for the pineapple topknot and big green leaves,? the light beige fabric is what I used to dye the dark green fabric,? it has a lovely silver thread woven through it.

Kmn6

Using seal and press to cut out my pieces from ironfussing for the pineapple topknot and base leaves ?these will be rawedge not turned. all tiny pieces are numbered or mark some way?

Nnnn

First I place a small teflon sheet down and I start working left to right this works for me

Jnbb

Slowly working across, pinning each piece as I go in place.

Hbbb

One completed top knot ready for the iron to seal all together.

Jnb

All ironed together ready to be stored till I applique it down on to my background fabric

Jhb

Just playing now to see how it will look and how I will build it on my background fabric. I made 28 of those tiny shapes that I built my pineapple from.

Jnbb

Add a few leaves

Hbbb

A few more slowly.

Promgrantet

Pomegranate will be fun to make using irononfussing and the outer parts turned applqiue?

It needs a splash of yellow

Bottom leaves of pineapple added, seeds of the pomegranate,? and it needed a splash of yellow, so we have a sunflower LOL .

Finally the berries!

Finally the berries! ?Now to find the time to make the other 1/2? of this blocks LOL.

Hbbv

Close up of those pineapple shapes ?

In the garden this week.

Hgfd

Nov or Christmas lilly it is commonly known as here

Nhgf

One of my favorite treasures in the garden it surprises me each year.

Hgv

He landed on our front terrace and when I was trying to photograph him he got quiet angry, so threw a towel over him and threw him back in to the trees.

Start of a tree ants nest which I nearly ene.

One side of the two leaves that they have stitched together to form there nest.? Start of a tree ants nest which I nearly touch, I? was pruning the tree and this was on one of the ones I cut down. They are very vestie and you do not want to get to close to them.

Jhgg

Its a bit like a football shape leaves are around 8inchs long and 5 across. When they? want another room they pull another leave across and attach that one and they can have up to 12 or more leaves all pulled in to make there nests .

Kjjh

Came to visit last night

Upclose and personal, one of our local wee frogs which the garden is full of after the rain last night?

WOW or WIP’s 20th Nov 2020.

What’s right in front of me as I write my blog!

What’s right in front of me as I write my blog!

I think every morning how lucky I am to live in such a spot?

I think every morning how lucky I am to live in such a spot? Looking down to the river and across to the Kuranda Ranges.

I write the 20 th of Nov and realise there’s only 5 weeks till Christmas morning? ? I realise that all been well I will be at my Son and DDIL’s home ?and with luck will walk along the beach if I want to at Noosa one of the most beautiful spots in OZ!

But now I’m sitting??on my veranda looking at a beautiful view, and thinking about making leaves for my HOTYH Quilt , this is one of the most enjoyable quilts I have ever made, there’s so much in it, many challenges and oh the joy when you manage to do them LOL.

Today I will share in photos how I meet the challengers of making the tiny bouquets.

Glorious Yellows

Glorious Yellows? I dyed during the week. Its so much fun seeing the fabric change?

Spent a couple of days dying greens till I got the colour shades I liked

Greens and more greens

Greens and more greens in the foreground is the silk I used for all the colours I made, it’s a very pale pink mushroom colour, it’s from a silk kimono about 1930’s ?it has a lovely weave pattern so gives lots of texture to the new dyed fabrics.

Made up 3 leaves first to see if they were going to look like what my mind was seeing LOL.

Going to be a perfect foil for this tiny wee flowers!

Now to share how I made those leaves using cut out shapes of washaway freezer paper.

First I traced all the leaf shapes on to the washaway freezer paper, numbered them , T for top of the leaf B for bottom, then added letters telling which one went where on the bouquet on both 1/2s. Last was a mark of 3 dots on each 1/2 where I was going to cut the leaf in 1/2 so I knew at a glance they were the middle join, when you have lots of 1/2 leaves it saves a lot of time?

Starting to iron on those 1/2 leaves I use small pieces of polystyrene to pin my pieces to as I go.

Making up my leaf shapes bit by bit so I can show you how I make them.

Hggf

Starting bottom right hand side ?First step is drawing my leaf shape by placing my washaway freezer paper over the leaf shapes, it is clear enough to see the pattern under it. ?Then cut the leaf shape out and add all the reminder points on the two sides . ?Step 2 iron all the shapes to the fabric cut out shapes this is where I use those 3 dots along the seam to remind me to leave a good 1/4 inch seam allowance? ? ? ?Step 3 roll back centre line of one side of the leaf where you added the reminder dots. You can use glue I needle baste. ? Look closely at photo and you will see that the right 1/2 is rolled back. ? ?Step 4 place rolled back 1/2 on top of the other seam, it will sit snug make sure you even these parts up perfectly, glue into place or like I do baste it!? Top row? from right to left first two have been basted together.? 3rd one I have stitched the two halve together and removed all basting threads it is now ready to applqiue to my block.? ? Happy sewing!!!!

Leaves slowly been added, I was hoping to have all the leaves finished for my first bouquet but they take longer to make than I thoughtLOL.
